After years of keeping cats and dogs, I’ve discovered that reptiles are honestly the easiest pets to care for. And among them, crested geckos quickly stole my heart—their adorable eyelash-like crests are just too charming!
These little guys are so easy to raise that I’d say “if you have hands, you can keep one.” Seriously.
All you need is a suitable enclosure (plastic storage bins work too!). Set it up with:
Ideal Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
They thrive in warm environments, and in most cases, standard room temperature works well.
If you live in a colder climate or during winter months, consider using a low-wattage heat mat to maintain stable temperatures. Avoid direct contact between the gecko and the heat source—always place it under one side of the enclosure to create a temperature gradient.
Humidity: 60–70%
Maintain humidity by misting the enclosure 1–2 times daily with a spray bottle. This not only helps regulate moisture levels but also provides hydration, as crested geckos often lick water droplets from surfaces.
2–3 times per week is plenty—I usually feed every other day.
Feeding tip: Add some calcium powder with D3. Mix about 10:1 (fruit paste to calcium). When feeding crickets, just dust them with calcium.
After work, I love holding them for a bit—it’s super relaxing. Watching them sit there with their tiny hands folded… instant happiness overload!
